Wow, Its hard to believe that its already the new year. We apologize for the lack of posts, With all the holiday fun past us we can get right back into the swing of things. We hope everyone has a healthy and safe 2012. Lets Rock the year out right. Artist Flash Back 12/09/2011
Well, It's Friday again, and that means its time for another installment of Indy's artist flash back. This weeks artist is The Nancy School. From their still existing myspace page. "The Nancy School formed in 2002... Put an album out,.. Paideia.. in 2003... Played the Indy stop of the Warped Tour in 2004... Near the end of 2004, released thier second albumn, ..Fancy Title for a Part Time Job... This album was voted No. 10 as one of the "Best Local Albums of 2005" by David Lindquist of The Indianapolis Star... They continued to rock the house in 2005. And played their way to the final round of Benchmark's Battle of the Bands at the Vogue... Slight line up change on drums in 2005 - goodbye to Trevor and hello to TJ... Called it quits in March of 2006. .. .. .. You can still find the guys involved in other musical projects:.. ..James.. and ..Scott.. play in ..Phoenix on the Fault Line.... ..Trevor.. plays in ..Thrive.... ..T.J... plays in Lazarus.. ..Chris.. was eaten by gnomes. .. ...." Due to my age, I was lucky enough to see these guys at the warped tour in 2004. They put on a great show, If i remember right they were on the Ernie Ball Stage...either way, they were a solid. I was able to snag a copy of their first album "Paideia" at this show. The album was very good, especially for a kid that just wanted to play music. I remember saying...These dudes are from INDY!!! NO WAY. in a freshman in high school kind of way. That album still stays in rotation of the endless assault of music that plays in my car. Now fast forward to 2008ish, I am playing with a legit Indy rock band. Playing countless shows with all sorts of bands. We book our cd release party and ask a then beginning band to play. Phoenix on the fault line. After chatting with them for a few I came to realize where i recognized at least 1 of the members.James from The Nancy School. Its was kind of a cool thing to experience. You can still listen to some of The Nancy Schools material online here But regardless lets hear it for The Nancy School, yet another casualty of the Indy Music Scene. ~IMS Long time indy band Everything now has released its long awaited new album Do It On The Moon. Keep It Coming! 11/21/2011
We at IMS would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have visited us since we went live on Friday. Since then we have received 211 page views. Not to bad considering we are a fresh site. With that said we have some big things planned for local bands and venues. Shortly we will be doing and artist spotlight, this will mean the band of the week will have a page dedicated to them on the site with pictures, links to their respective media pages, and a short editorial write up covering there beginnings to their current releases. We will also have guest writers doing editorials on various venues and genera pieces covering so much ground you will have to be on a treadmill to read them. With all jokes aside, continue to tell your friends and pass the word on to bands, and venues. Thanks ~IMS Artist Flash Back! 11/18/2011
Since we just when live yesterday, We going to try and start a little bit of a tradition. Every Friday we will post an Artist Flash Back. What is an artist flash back you say? We will be writing up a small post about bands from the scene from years past. So for our first post! From Their Still Existing Myspace page. "Sacrifice, true kindred spirits, and tight-knit dedication are hard to find in many bands, even for those strong enough to strive well beyond basement practices and bar circuits. From their beginning in 2000, the Indianapolis, Indiana-based group SpiL has been on a steady path of growth helping to redefine the diversity, emotion, and influence of heavy-rock music in the Midwest. SpiL has emerged as one of the Indianapolis scene's leaders in performance and promotion. Diehard commitment is a powerful, unifying motivation for this band. With each member aging in their mid-20s, influences range from 80s metal, to hardcore, to straight up rock,to Elvis Presley. Switching out from heavy to soft, from fast to slow, hardcore inspired riffs to melodic, the music is diverse enough to be accessible to any fan of heavy rock. Part of Spil's strategy is to push every emotional button within their audience with the music. Another way to reach their fans has been through endless hours of cut-throat promotion by passing out thousands of flyers and self-burnt cd samplers advertising their shows and other events. At a good percentage of all Indianapolis local shows, you will see a member of the band and/or Street Team passing out a SpiL flyer or a cd. The effort shows, as the band have a very strong fanbase in Indianapolis and other surrounding cities. SpiL has also aimed its sights at performing live, putting considerable concentration towards amassing more than justa large, loyal hometown audience. Having performed in seven states located in the heart of the nation, SpiL has definately touched on other large music markets then their own in Indiana. After only a few visits to each major city, SpiL has gained fans from: Louisville(KY), Chicago(IL), Columbus(OH), Peoria(IL), Flint(MI), and Detroit(MI) just to name a few. The live performance of SpiL has been described as one to remember with its catchy hooks and heart-felt lyrics. With a fierce combination of raw power, emotion, and melody, the band revolves itself around the pure energy that is created amongst the ambition and dedication of its five members each time a single note is played. After sharing the stage with such noteable national acts as: Taproot, Murderdolls, Spineshank, Boy Sets Fire, Social Burn, Five Pointe O, From Zero, Prong, All That Remains, Factory 81, Beyond the Embrace, Systematic, Unloco, Nonpoint, Kings X, Dog Fashion Disco, No One, and a ernie ball winning slot on the 2004 Vans Warped Tour, SpiL has definately held their own, logged some stage experience, and paid their dues." http://www.myspace.com/spil I only got a chance to see them one time but they were a SOLID group. I remember searching and searching for there album but with no avail, But now we have the wonderful age of facebook and myspace where unsigned bands are just itching to promote their stuff, and hoping someone will give them their big break. Well, here is to SpiL! Another unfortunate casualty in the Indy Music Scene. This has been you Artist Flash Back! ~IMS X103 Presents a fun filled night hosted by Deuce!
